Every two years Westgate sends about seventy to eighty of its senior high music students on a 10- 12 day music tour. The Senior Concert Band, Concert Choir, Senior Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz class have travelled and connected with different schools and churches from Montreal to Vancouver Island. It is a wonderful way for our students to grow as musicians and share their music. It is also a beautiful way to make connections outside our local community.
Music Tour 2018
From April 7-April 16, 2018 the Westgate Senior Band, Senior Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Class embarked on a 10-Day Music Tour. While away they participated in worship services in Saskatoon and Calgary, performed publicly in Saskatoon, participated in a combined concert with the students of Rosthern Junior College, performed a school concert in Edmonton and finally participated in the Rocky Mountain Music Festival in Banff, Alberta. They had free time for the sights in Saskatoon, had a fun afternoon at the West Edmonton Mall, hiked in Banff, rode the gondola up Sulphur Mountain and took a dip in the Banff Hot Springs. At the Music Festival each of the ensembles performed for the public and adjudication then participated in a follow-up workshop to help improve skills and musicality. They also had the chance to hear other groups from around the country. The students were also thrilled to attend concerts presented by the University of Victoria Chamber Singers, and the famous Count Basie Big Band from New York City.
