Mr. Hummelt began his career in 1979 as a Gr. 5 teacher in the Lord Selkirk School Division. He joined the Westgate staff in 1982, teaching social studies and later serving as vice-principal. After 23 years at Westgate, Mr. Hummelt became the principal of Lac du Bonnet Senior School. He returned to Westgate in 2007 as Principal, and after 10 roller coaster years of planning, variance hearings and relocation of the entire staff and student body for a year, he is pleased to be part of the Westgate community in the newly redeveloped campus. Bob enjoys joining students and staff on Marsh and Mountain Club outdoor education activities, and has coached cross country and track through his teaching career. Bob received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg and his Masters of Arts in History jointly from the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. He claims that his thesis centered on working mothers in Winnipeg during the Second World War is a real page turner according to the five who read it. Spare time is spent canoeing with family and friends, reading, collecting stamps and trying to keep his Datsun 280Z on the road. Cross country skiing is a more recent pursuit; think Bambi on ice. Bob and his wife Cathy are members of Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, and have four adult children and two grandchildren.
